Outaouais Invitational Badminton Tournament 2012, 20th edition

Gatineau (Aylmer Sector) – The twentieth edition of theOutaouais Invitational Badminton Team Challenge which took place on Saturday October 27 at Grande-Rivière High School (Aylmer sector) was a great success. This event is now well renowned and is a great opportunity to see high calibre badminton with 16 competitive teams from the region as well as from elsewhere in Ontario and Québec (Montréal, Ottawa, Gatineau…). It is interesting to note that this year, for our anniversary edition, the calibre of the games was exceptionally high. Congratulations to all participants.

This year, Ottawa University won the honours since its two teams, She Knew de la Merced and That’s What Shi Said, respectively won Pool A and Pool C against two teams from the RA Centre, 50 Shades of Grey in Pool A and ¢a$h mon€¥ in Pool C. Les Moineaux de l’Île, a team from Île-Bizard in the Montréal region, won Pool B against the Toucans from Hull. Finally, for Pool D, Yo-Next from Hull-Aylmer beat the team from Aylmer, Les Fondateurs, which included the two founding members of the tournament, Raymond Côté and Stéphane Martineau. Well done to all!

Each year, the calibre of the tournament increases and this year, more that $3,500 in prizes were awarded. The tournament organization receives support from various partners and long time sponsors such as Yonex, the Caisse populaire Desjardins d’Aylmer, the Association régionale de Badminton de l’Outaouais and Bell. We would also like to thank the Hull-Aylmer federal Member of Parliament Nycole Turmel and the Aylmer councillors André Laframboise and Stephan Psenak for their renewed support, as well as all those who contribute to make this event a success for the region.

Finally, thanks to the players and to the support of the Aylmer Loblaws, as well as the work from volunteers students from Grande-Rivière school, all the profits and the unsold goods from the food service (cafeteria) were given to the Aylmer Food Bank. Thanks to all for your support.
